What do you need to be focusing on this Fall?

While many players follow the lead of their teammates or club, the exact thing YOU need to focus on this fall may be completely different than your teammates! Our staff of college coaches breaks down a HS athlete’s potential Fall needs into the THREE R’s: Get Recharged, Get Recruited, Get Reps!

Now of course, some of these can be done in conjunction with another. You don’t need to ONLY be training or doing tournaments getting repetitions. But it is important that you know which one to prioritize and how to attack that specific need!

Below are some thoughts as to the most successful ways to attack your needs this fall!

Recharge !

#1. The best thing many athletes can do in the Fall is to recharge and take some time away! While many use the winter months to do that, it is important to the end of August and perhaps some of September to give your body and mind a rest!

#2. At our events, we preach that you should NOT come back to another Best in the US event unless you are ready to show that you’ve improved! Improvement can be shown in a lot of ways, but speed, strength and agility are some of the most basic forms that will show INSTANT improvement on the baseball diamond! College coaches love nothing more than to see a player who ran a 7.2 60 yard dash in June, and then can come back in October and run a 6.90! It shows they’ve put in the work!

#3. If you attended a showcase of any kind over the summer, take a look at your metrics and see how they compare to some of the other attendees. Where did you rank in speed? Hitting? Arm Strength? At our events, we provide a leaderboard where athletes can see exactly where they stack up against the competition. Make sure you are focusing on your weaknesses and have a gameplan that will directly help you improve your metrics and game skills!

Get Recruited!

#1. Obviously all uncommitted high-school baseball players want to get recruited! But are you doing anything this Fall that will actually help that? Playing in the same 4-5 tournaments of the same big companies that you did all summer (and didn’t see one college coach) is not a gameplan for success to be seen. The Fall weekends are limited, so you need to be extremely choosey about which events you go to and who you are getting in front of!

#2. Weekends in the Fall are LIMITED! Your gameplan for getting in front of schools needs to depend on where you are in your process. If you have been chatting with a school for a while, it may be wise to get to their camp so you can check out campus. If you are still a bit earlier and chatting with multiple schools, or perhaps haven’t made contact with any coaches yet, then you need to check out an event like Best in the US that will have a large number of college coaches in attendance.

#3. You can always play tournaments AND go to events to get recruited (same with training). You just need to remember that the weekends are limited, school work comes first, and that your body needs to be ready to show off the best version of you when the time comes!

Get Reps!

#1. Unfortunately, this is the one that most players focus on during the fall when they really should be focusing on other areas! The reality is, a majority of players play too much baseball from March to August, so adding more games, pitches, and throws is overkill by October!

#2. While that may be the case for many, we don’t want to generalize for everybody, so we certainly understand that there are some players that need extra reps! Perhaps you are a player who missed some time due to an injury or played on a summer team where the playing time did not work out as expected. In situations like those, you may need to get out and play 4-5 tournaments in the Fall!
